Typografische Monatsblätter / Revue suisse de l’imprimerie / Swiss Typographic Magazine: Journal for Typographic Composition, Design, Communication, Printing and Production, No. 3, 1998. Published by the Printing and Paper Union of Switzerland for the advancement of education in the profession, Zürich. 9 x 11.75, pp. 48 plus covers including trade advertising. Mostly German and French with some English text; heavily illustrated. Cover designed by Helmut Schmid with a woodcut by Kurt Hauert, Basel.
Featuring a 16-page illustrated article (with English) devoted to Helmut Schmid’s (Osaka) excellent book “The Road to Basel,” featuring typographic reflections by students of the typographer and teacher Emil Ruder. With contributions by: Schmid, Åke Nilsson (Uppsala), Roy Cole, Fritz Gottschalk (Zürich), Hans-Jürg Hunziker (Paris) and others including many thumbnail pages from the book which can be read with magnification. An excellent supplement (or alternative) to Schmid’s superb book. Additional articles are included but not in English.
One of Switzerland’s most important graphic design and typography journals, TM provided a platform for education and critical discussions about technology and the trade with experimental and iconic covers and content expressing specific design ideologies and attitudes. This journal helped spread the influence and emerging developments of Swiss graphic design and typography to international audiences. For added context be sure to visit the TM Research Archive.
Near fine with only a hint of wear along the edges of the front white covers and spine tips. Uncommon in the United States.
