Published by the Printing and Paper Union of Switzerland for the advancement of education in the profession, St. Gallen. 9 x 11.75, pp. 80 plus covers including trade advertising. Mostly German and French with some English text; heavily illustrated. Cover designed by Helmut Schmid.
Featuring a 16-page illustrated article (with English) devoted to a correspondence between Helmut Schmid (Osaka) and Wolfgang Weingart (Basel) in which present day typography is critically observed. The letter-dialog was prompted by The Japan Typography Association and the recently designed Japan Typography Annual (No. 9, 1985) by Schmid. Also, “Contributions to Education in Letterform” a post-graduate course in letterform design at the Basle School of Design by Avi Dunkelman. Additional articles are included. One of Switzerland’s most important graphic design and typography journals, TM provided a platform for education and critical discussions about technology and the trade with experimental and iconic covers and content expressing specific design ideologies and attitudes. This journal helped spread the influence and emerging developments of Swiss graphic design and typography to international audiences.
Near fine with only a hint of wear and toning along the edges of the front white covers. Uncommon in the United States.
