Uncommon. This poster (Rand referred to it as a prospectus) was published to promote the New York Art Directors Club upcoming event: “The Art Directors Club is honored to invite you to a reception and a dinner to commemorate the induction of new members into its Hall of Fame,” which took place on Friday, November 4, 1983 at The Pierre [Hotel], 5th Avenue and 61st Street, New York City. The 1983 laureates were: Aaron Burns, Seymuour Chwast and Stephen Frankfurt and a special award honoring Bill Bernbach.

“The visual pun, in which a double meaning is projected graphically, may assume many different forms,” said Rand. Furthermore “The dual reading is what makes such images memorable. They amuse as they inform.” (Rand, 1985, pp. 120, 114)

A good, Paul Rand poster that has been heavily handled. With wear to the machine folds; some blemishes and light soiling to the white paper. No tears or splits but some dents and creases from improper storage and handling. An identical poster sold as part of a larger lot at Wright Auction's Paul Rand: The Art of Design Sale in 2018. Condition noted and price adjusted. Would look lovely framed!
