Poster Art in Iran (Tehran Museum, Farhud Batmanglich and Morteza Momayez)

Poster Art in Iran, Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art in affiliation with The Shahbanou Farah Foundation, 1977, Tehran, Iran. Chief Curator: David Galloway. 6.25 x 11.375, pp. 78 with Persian and English text. Designed by Farhud Batmanglich, Strawberry Studio. Printing: Rokh Press (Iran?).

Uncommon. This catalog was published as a companion to the exhibition of the same name held on November 22, 1977. With a Preface by the museum’s Director, Kamran Diba and an illustrated Introductory essay “An Historical Survey of Poster Art” by Negar Rohani, the Exhibition Curator. Lastly, Morteza Momayez’s important text summarizes the graphic arts in Iran with a focus on the “modern” poster and some of the changes that took place in Iran after 1942.

Heavily illustrated with one image per page, (6) in color featuring Iranian designed posters between 1969-77. Each is accompanied with poster details. Excellent overview of lesser-known Iranian posters by but not limited to: Morteza Momayez, Farshid Mesghali, Farhud Batmanglich, Ghobad Shiva, Sadegh Barirani and others.

A good softcover with handling and signs of wear to the covers and corners with a 1/2“ split to the spine heel; back cover starting to pull. Despite any flaws, a hard-to-find, important catalog with many uncommon works. Uncommon in the United States.
