Logic and design: The syntax of art, science & mathematics by Krome Barratt, 1st American ed., 1980. First published in Great Britain by George Godwin Limited then in the U.S.A. by Eastview Editions, Inc., New Jersey. 8.5 x 10.25, pp. 326. Printed in Great Britain. Jacket design by Krome Barratt (1924–1990).

This book is more practical than theoretical. It examines some of design’s key principles while showing the reader how they also support what is understood about art, mathematics and science. Heavily illustrated with multiple black and white examples (diagrams, line drawings, illustrations, etc.) on almost every page. Thoughtful text and brief captions help amplify the readers understanding.

With a Preface, Acknowledgments, and Introduction in the front. A list of people mentioned, an excellent Further Reading reference and a detailed Index towards the back. Thoughtful chapters and topics covered including: Same and similar; The significance of a number; Rhythm; Positive and negative; Progressions and growth; Dynamic and harmonic series; Ratio, proportion and scale; Simple oscillatory structures; The moving point; On lines and edges; A geometry of curves; A geometry of solids; Energy and equilibrium; Stress and strain; and Dramatization. I find this book fascinating; highly recommended!

A very good black hardcover cloth. In its’ very good dust jacket with light wear to the corners and edges with some sunning to the spine. Interior pages well preserved.
