“There is no time for confusion. It is a time for clear thinking — for self-realization — for a fine understanding of essential values, be it those of an individual, a company, a cause or a country.”
Uncommon. This is Lester Beall’s second studio promotional booklet (his first was in 1956) sent to existing and prospective clients and other designers. The text, presumably by Beall, discussed the studio’s design philosophies and designs role in business as well as the unique environment at Dumbarton Farms “a place for living the business of working” with quotes by John Ruskin and Frank Lloyd Wright. The work features projects from Chicago, New York and Connecticut, some with case-study text and a selected client list over the last 29 years at the back. The end includes a short yet proud text by Beall (September 1962) “With the search for individuality comes responsibility ...”
Heavily illustrated with full-page black and white studio and farm photographs and many project examples between c. 1934–1962 featuring but not limited to: Chicago Tribune, Time Magazine, Museum of Modern Art, Upjohn Company (Scope), Rural Electrification Administration, International Paper Company, Western Gypsum, Connecticut General Life Insurance, Stanley Electric Tools and others.
A very good softcover booklet with light wear and areas on the covers where the varnish has been lightly removed. Interior clean and bright.
