Josef Albers: Interaction of Color, 1971 — 1st English Softcover Edition, Yale University Press
Interaction of Color by Josef Albers. Text of the original 1963 edition with selected plates. 1st English Softcover Edition (German Edition from 1970), 2nd Printing, 1971. Yale University Press, New Haven, CT. 6 x 8, pp. 76. Design by Norman Ives and set in Baskerville type. Printed by The Murray Printing Co., Forge Village, MA.
An essential reference on color and a masterwork in art education. This compact and practical handbook serves as a teaching aid for artists, designers, instructors, and students. With a Preface, Introduction and (25) sections presenting Albers’s singular explanation of complex color theory principles including but not limited to: the relativity of color; light intensity and lightness; subtraction of color; the illusion of transparency; intersecting colors and color juxtaposition; vibrating and vanishing boundaries; and much more. Illustrated throughout with black and white line drawings and (10) color plates including the front and back cover illustrations.
A very good plus softcover with only light wear along the corners and edges. Better than most we've seen of this 1971 edition. Recommended!
