This book documents the experimental decade of the 1920s, focusing on graphic design’s new, functional visual vocabulary with (113) mostly black and white (with some red and yellow spot color) examples, each with small captions from pioneers of the avant-garde, too many to list but covering most avant-garde artistic movements.

With sections devoted to: The Conquest of Tradition, The New Language: DADA, The Search for Objectivity, Bauhaus Weimar-Dessau: Center of New Forces, New Art–New Advertising, What is New Typography (with a primary text from 1927 translated by Walter Dexel), International Activity, The City of Frankfurt am Main and more with a page of Credits from materials loaned for the book. An excellent primer to the innovative avant-garde period.

A near fine hardcover with a previous owner’s stamp crossed out in black marker on the inside cover. A good jacket with a 4” horizontal slice through the front along with an old sticker remnant, and rubbing along the edges. Interior pages unmarked.
