Fotografía Pública: Photography in Print 1919-1939, 2000. Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, Spain, 9.5 x 11.25, pp. 274. English and Spanish text. Edited by Horacio Fernandez. Designed by Fernando Gutierrez.

Published to coincide with the exhibit of the same name at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, Fotografía Pública documents the artistic, experimental, and documentary photography occurring during the interwar years, when new modes of visual communication for the masses emerged such as photobooks, newspapers, posters, and advertisements. New photographic approaches including photomontage, photograms, perspective, and fragmentation signaled a changing visual culture.

Includes a lengthy introduction by Horacio Fernandez (exhibition curator) with A–Z listings of (175) entries discussing the role of each photographer, designer, publication or country: Alexander Rodchenko, Bernice Abbott, John Heartfield, Herbert Bayer, Karl Blossfeldt, Eugne Atget, Margaret Bourke-White, Alexey Brodovitch, Gustav Klutsis, Germaine Krull, Dorothea Lange, El Lissitzky, Man Ray, Herbert Matter, Tina Modotti, László Moholy-Nagy, and many more. Heavily illustrated in black and white and color featuring: journals, periodicals, books and booklets, advertisements, posters, and ephemera.

A new hardcover still sealed (with some tears to the plastic) in the publisher‘s plastic wrapper. With some scuffs to the four corner tips. An amazing title!
