This extensive handbook deals with the technique and design elements of typographic production. With a short introduction by Josef Müller-Brockmann and a text contribution titled “Craft and Art” by Paul Rand.

Chapters by the author are devoted to: planning of text, typesetting production, typographic elements, formal aspects (contrasts, proportions, rhythm, variations, etc.), working principles, and the development of type forms. The book culminates with applied typography examples; a heavily illustrated section with black and white and color examples from Switzerland, Italy, Canada, Germany and U.S.A.; books, magazines, brochures, advertisements, posters, packaging and stationary. Part of the excellent ABC Verlag series.

A very good plus glazed hardcover with light wear at the corners and along the edges. Binding tight and interior pages clean. In the original, very good dust jacket with small tears near the edges and paper loss along the top edge and spine.
