This comprehensive handbook deals with the technique and design elements of typographic production. With a short introduction Josef Müller-Brockmann and a text contribution titled “Craft and Art” by Paul Rand. Extensive chapters by the authors devoted to: planning of text, typesetting production, typographic elements, formal aspects (contrasts, proportions, rhythm, variations, etc.), working principles, and the development of type forms. The book culminates with applied typography examples; a heavily illustrated section with black and white and color Swiss, German and American works. Part of the excellent ABC Verlag series.
A nearly fine glazed hardcover with only a hint of wear. In the original, very good dust jacket with a few heavy tears and paper loss along the front and back edges and top of spine.
