Aim for a Job in Graphic Design / Art by S. Neil Fujita. First published in 1968, this is the revised edition from 1982. Aim High Vocational Press; Richard Rosen Press, Inc., New York. 5.75 x 8.75, pp. 146. Illustrated hardcover. Design by S. Neil Fujita. Ex-library; see condition below.

Uncommon. The Aim High Vocational Guidance series is designed for the young person who is looking for a job ... and it works! Michael Bierut points to this book as an early influence to becoming a designer: “I opened the book up, and it was like receiving an instruction manual for my future career: it was all right there ... and I thought, ‘This is what I want to do.’ I didn’t know a single living graphic designer, and no one I knew did anything even resembling graphic design; but all of a sudden, I saw this path.” — i love this sentiment!

Sections include: About the Author with examples of his work; Preface by David Finn and more. In (8) sections including: Fundamentals of Design; Definition of Terms; Where Designers Are Employed; Institutional Graphic Design; Background and Training; Biographies and Work of Twelve Successful Designers (Peter Adler, Ruth Ansel, Janet Czarnetzki, Harry O. Diamond, Louis Dorfsman, Sheila Green, Arne Lewis, George Lois, Alexander Oliver, E. Russell Payne, Kenneth Stuart, and Bernie Zlotnick; each with a profile photo and illustrated examples); What You Bring to the Field; How to Get a Job; and Design Restates Principles of Nature. With an Appendix of Magazines & Periodicals and Glossary of Graphic Arts Terms at the end.

Heavily illustrated throughout with more than (60) black and white examples: trade advertisements, packaging, logos and symbols, dust jackets, magazine covers, editorial, and more.

This copy is ex-library and includes a small label on the spine, a few DISCARD and library stamps on the front matter and a small label on the back paste-down. This book was once covered by an acetate library jacket and has since been removed leaving two large vertical pieces stuck to the paste-downs; not bad. Overall, only a hint of wear to the still bright illustrated hardcover and interior pages. Recommended!
