Knoll Calendar, 1972. Copyright 1970, Knoll International. 12” x 12”, 368 total sheets. Grafiche A. Nava, Milano, Made in Italy. Designed by Massimo Vignelli. Offset printing in one color. This is new, old stock that has been sitting in storage for approx. 48 years.
Mounted on a metal backing, this Vignelli designed wall calendar includes individual sheets from: Saturday, January 1, 1972 to Sunday, December 31, 1972 designed with a special light weight paper for ease in tearing off the sheets day by day. The calendar opens with a sheet showing the full range of dates for 1972 and ends with one for 1973. Included is the original heavy white cardboard packaging with a black and white “1972 Knoll Calendar” label affixed.
A minimal Vignelli design featuring large Helvetica numbers (more than 7 inches high) and tightly spaced text in white on black — 1972 never looked this cool. Published a few years before his now iconic Max365 perpetual wall calendar.
There are some light water stains on the packaging resulting in a musty smell when the calendar is removed. The metal backing is a bit rusty and the outside cardboard box has some old tape and wear. Some light handling on the calendar covers but they have never been used. Despite any issues, still a rare, original Massimo Vignelli design artifact. This is my last copy!
