Kieler Woche: Rolf Müller [Original Poster]

[Original Poster] Kieler Woche, 4. bis 11. juni, 1972. Kieler Woche, Kiel, Germany. 16.5 x 23.5. Design by Rolf Müller (1940–2015), widely celebrated for his design contributions with Otl Aicher for the Munich Olympic Games in 1972.

Beginning in 1950, the Kieler Woche (sailing event) annual poster competition is Europe's most prestigious. Each year, a selected, expert committee personally invites five German and/or European designers or practices to participate and submit no more than three entries.

Without an image or literal representation, Müller broke from tradition and relied exclusively on experimental typography to create an abstract image which curves and bends to evoke a wind-blown sail — a poetic solution relying on visual clarity and acuity to intensify the message.

A fine and increasingly difficult to find original Kieler Woche poster. Poster will be rolled and shipped in a tube.
