Karl Gerstner: Typographisches Memorandum [Inscribed]

Karl Gerstner: Typographisches Memorandum / Typographical Memorandum / Memorandum Typographique by Karl Gerstner, February 1972. Zollikofer & Co. AG, Switzerland. 9 x 11.75, pp. 36 with German, English and French text. Designed and inscribed on the front cover by Gerstner Gerstner für Posch.

Typographical Memorandum marks the end of Gerstner's typographical work; before he concentrated solely on art. Heavily illustrated with over 75 black and white works printed on grey stock and a German text introduction by Rudolf Hostettler; editor of the seminal Swiss typography journal Typografische Monatsblätter.

“From the typographical work we have chosen only those specimens in which typography and content form a special unity — in memory of the integral typography.” A thoughtful supplement to Gerstner's previous book “Compendium for Literates” which focuses on his typographical views and theories.

A very good journal with stiff, printed wrappers. Light wear and toning to the edges with a small bump to the front cover corner extending throughout. Cover starting to pull from binding; minor but noted. Uncommon.
