An uncommon, exhibition announcement featuring Barbara Stauffacher Solomon’s hard-edge, porcelain abstractions held at Design Research; the lifestyle store founded in 1953 by Ben Thompson in Cambridge, Massachusetts. With an excellent bright vermillion orange example on the cover.

From the interior: Barbara Stauffacher’s “Signs” are made of porcelain enamel on steel, and are impervious to the effects of weather. The colors retain their brightness, and the surface withstands extremes of heat, cold, and moisture. The exhibition of “Signs” represents the first D/R showing of graphics by an American designer. They are presented here in their context of spacial delineators that enhance and dramatize interior design factors as well as exterior.”

Announcement includes a short text about the exhibition and Stauffacher’s projects and achievements. Illustrated with two black and white photographs: one with the artist standing beside her enamel “EXIT” sign and another showing her hard-edge porcelain sign in situ; both photographs appear to be taken at The Sea Ranch, Sonoma County, California.
