Type and Typography: The Designer's Type Book by Ben Rosen, 1963. 1st ed., Reinhold Publishing Corporation, New York. 9 x 12, pp. 406. Designed by Ben Rosen.

This volume is concerned with type and typography and intended as a practical workbook. It shows carefully selected, complete alphabets commonly available or becoming available in the United States (1963). Each type face is shown in full alphabet including numbers and punctuation with information on sizes, comparisons of cuts, characters with basic groups in sizes from 6 to 72 point, set both solid and leaded. With recognition traits, comparisons, other useful data.

With a Preface by Ben Rosen and a Foreword by Will Burtin who Rosen had worked for before setting up his own studio. The illustrated Introduction focuses on the history of type including: writing of early civilizations, derivation of form, invention of printing, revivals, contemporary typography and the technical aspects of type such as: how moveable type is made, copy casting, marking the copy and proofreader’s marks.

A nearly fine hardcover book in its' original very good dust jacket with light scratches and wear on the covers and along the edges. With a light musty odor.
