Tiffany & Co. Original Graphic Standards Manual

Tiffany & Co. Graphic Standards Manual, n.d., (c. 1987). Tiffany & Co., New York, USA. 10 x 11.5, slim 3-ring binder (1/2” rings) with custom illustrated cover and text printed on the spine: (10) double-sided pages, (5) Tiffany Blue larger section dividers, each with introductory text and (26) reproduction sheets. Designer: Unknown.

This manual is earlier than the redrawing of the Tiffany & Co. logotype in 2003 by Pentagram’s Paula Scher, New York and the Sterling type family designed by Joshua Darden at Hoefler & Frere-Jones, c. 2003. It's also before Tiffany Blue became Pantone 1837, named after Tiffany’s founding year.

For its 150 years, Tiffany & Co. has been recognized as the preeminent source of fine jewelry, silver goods, and products for the table. The Tiffany & Co. logotype and blue color is a recognizable classic and evokes a sense of elegance and sophistication.

An Introduction from the company’s Chairman of the Board, William R. Chaney, where he expresses the company’s “dedication to excellence in design.” This manual is the result of an internal review of the companies communication design. “As you will see, it is not a “new look” for us. Rather, it builds upon the equity of our logo and the famous Tiffany Blue, demonstrating their most effective uses in publications, advertising and collateral materials.”
