Paris construit: Guide de l‘architecture contemporaine par I. Schein. Cercle d'études architecturaries. Set in Univers with typography by Atelier Adrian Frutiger.

“For the past fifty years, Paris has been a proving ground for steel, glass, concrete and synthetic materials.” This extensive guide to modern Parisian architecture is authored by Ionel Schein, the Romanian-born French architect and includes more than (450) sites divided into seven sections: Historical, City Center, South, West, North, East and Future Projects.

Each is heavily illustrated with black and white photographs and minimal architectural line drawings and diagrams. With building name. address and short captions in French, German and English. There's even a line item for transportation (i.e. how to get there via metro, bus or train). Towards the back there‘s a Map, Index of architects and their projects, Bibliography and general information on Paris. Most of the photos are by Swiss photographer Thomas Cugini with others by: R. Mallet-Stevens, Jean Collas, A. Lurcat et al.

Additionally there are ten sections devoted to the works of individual designers: Josef Albers, Alfred Arndt, Herbert Bayer, Max Bill, Erich Comeriner, László Moholy-Nagy, Xanti Schawinsky, Oscar Schlemmer, Joost Schmidt and Studio Z with some examples published beyond the years listed above.

A very good softcover with light wear. This is the only original Frutiger design that has ever been in my possession. Hard to find in the United States.
