Octavo Redux 1:1 — a record of Octavo, journal of typography 1986–1992 [Unit Editions]

Octavo Redux 1:1 — a record of Octavo, journal of typography 1986–1992 by Mark Holt and Hamish Muir, 2017. Unit Editions, London, United Kingdom. 9.375 x 12.375, pp. 384. Design by Mark Holt and Hamish Muir; two of Octavo’s original designers and editors.

Between 1986 and 1992, eight issues of Octavo, journal of typography were published. The first seven were produced with the same 16 page format and wrap-around translucent jacket using the typeface Unica. Issue eight was published as an ‘interactive’ CD-ROM.

Octavo Redux 1:1 faithfully reproduces all eight issues covers and spreads, subscription cards and card mock-ups at actual size including the eighth issue’s packaging and a selection of screenshots. Equally impressive, the book documents pre-desktop computer production processes by featuring selected type specifications and proof mark-ups. The extensive captions and annotations, shed a light on this now lost practice. To quote the editors: “Octavo Redux is as close as you can get to the originals without holding them in your hands.”

As new. Hardcover with a lay-flat binding and translucent jacket in the original publishers shrink wrap. Highly recommended!
