IBM Design Program, two-pocket folder, n.d. [1984]. IBM, International Business Machines Corporation, New York, USA. 9 x 11.5 with a front cover design by Paul Rand, “one of his favorite works.” (Heller, Paul Rand, p. 164).

This IBM Design Program folder with it’s strong use of geometry, color and repetition was published for an IBM seminar where Paul Rand spoke. Signed in plate “Paul Rand” in the lower-left corner.

“The emotional force generated by the repetition of words or pictures and the visual possibilities (as a means of creating texture, movement, rhythm, indicating equivalence of time and space) should not be minimized. The possibilities of repetition are limitless. Repeat patterns are only one familiar form. There is repetition of color, weight, texture, dimension, movement, expression, shape and so on. Repetition is an effective way of achieving unity. Repetition also means remembrance ... familiar things are an effective mnemonic devices.” (Paul Rand, A Designer’s Art, p. 87)

The uncoated paper folder has a few light marks and lightly worn along the margins with two soft bends along the top and corner. Excellent design by Rand; would look lovely framed!
