Grünplanung Darmstadt [Germany] by Günther Grzimek, November 1962. 1st ed., Ingenieurbüro Günther Grzimek. 8 x 11.25, n.p. [pp. 260 plus covers] with German text only. Analysis and design by Günther Grzimek the celebrated landscape architect and Otl Aicher, the lecturer at the Hochschule für Gestaltung, Ulm.

Rare. Green Planning Darmstadt is a pioneering (perhaps one of Germany’s first) expert analysis regarding the planning and expansion of a green space system within an urban environment. This privately published proposal includes eight sections devoted to: Fundamentals, Analysis, Conception, Forest Mapping, Green Centers, Green Space Plan, Single Projects, and Organization.

The extensive analysis is heavily illustrated throughout with minimal and functional maps, legends, diagrams and data sets with at least (60) exceptional full-page black and white topographic, geographic and diagrammatic maps. Meticulously prepared with a practical 2-column grid, green landscaped colored glossy covers and monospaced type for all text except chapter numbers and map text. Additionally, this report includes: the names of others involved with the project, a list of references, printing information and a folded photo-copy of laid-in of an article from the Darmstädter Echo, November 28, 1963.

Günther Grzimek was a landscape artist and head of the municipal garden in Ulm, Germany — he is celebrated for his iconic Olympic Park project for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. He and Aicher worked together as early as 1951 when Grzimek was the head of the Department for Horticulture at the Ulmer Volkshochschule (vh ulm).

A near fine softcover with a hint of wear. The front cover is pulled from the binding and the interior is starting to crack but all pages still attached. Interior pages clean and complete. Privately printed in an unknown quantity yet presumed to be very small.
