Environmental Design: Signage & Graphics, 1977. Presented by The American Institute of Graphic Arts, New York. 8.5 x 8.5, pp. 8 plus covers, stapled. Designed by: John Follis & Associates, Los Angeles, California. Printed in California.
Exhibition booklet concerned with the designing and making of architectural signing and graphics. With an introduction by John V. Follis; the pioneer in environmental graphic design who studied under Alvin Lustig at the Art Center College of Design and published his seminal and practical book Architectural Signing and Graphics in 1979. This thin booklet features forty diverse examples (traditional and newly developed using new materials or technology) of sign fabrication techniques by leading sign fabricators from New York, Rhode Island, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and many in California. A few neatly illustrated but most with one letter or numeral to indicate the method or technique.
This program was supported by the AIGA as part of their education efforts to inform members interested in the new, expanding areas of graphic design. The committee included: John Follis, Chairman; Massimo Vignelli, AIGA President; and Flora Finn Gross, AIGA Executive Director.
A fine stapled booklet with only a hint of wear; surprisingly uncommon.
