(2) individual specimens of Ludlow Ornament, c. 1929/1935. Ludlow Typograph Company, 2032 Clybourn Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Each specimen is 6.25. x 9.25, stapled with 36 pages in oversized, premium uncoated colored paper wrappers.
Uncommon as a set. The orange specimen is c. 1929 and the blue is c. 1935; based on the dates of the printed examples inside. Each specimen includes an Introductory text (duplicated in each book) on Typographic Ornament; perhaps by Douglas C. McMurtrie, director of advertising and typography at the Ludlow Typograph Company ... "One of the most charming adjuncts to typography is type ornament, by which we mean units of decoration in the form of type, which can be repeated or used in conjunction, to make up borders, decorative spots, headbands, tailpieces, all-over patterns, and so forth."
Richly illustrated with (31 and 37) mostly color examples, many full page featuring: title pages, advertisements, tickets, and ephemera using Ludlow ornaments and borders. There is some image duplication (but in different colors) in both specimens; but generally more different than similar. With ornament numbers and typefaces used for each example (i.e. Ornament No. C12, Ultra-Modern Bold).
Fine wrappers with only the slightest hint of wear to the yapped edges. Interior pages still bright and fresh. Excellent!
