A collection of approx. (54) of Guillaume Apollinaire's (1880-1918) original calligrammes translated by Jiří Konůpek; selected from a previously published French edition. With a table of contents listing all poems (Country, Tie and Watch, 1915, Small Car, Dove and the Fountain, It’s Raining and many more) and an afterword by Vladimír Diviš. The frontispiece is a well known (yet unfortunately cropped) portrait of a wounded Apollinaire by his dear friend Picasso. 

Beautifully designed by Oldřich Hlavsa (1909–1995) with a folded piece of paper including his printed name, Prague address and perhaps his signature (?) in blue ink laid-in. Hlavsa's excellent graphic and typographic design is featured on the front of the dust jacket, the softcover wrapper, the purple and white endpapers and pages scattered throughout ... where Hlavsa gives form to Apollinaire's original calligrammes with purple ink and/or his own expression.

A very good softcover book in it's original dust jacket with some mild wear and toning to the edges and white areas; well-preserved and uncommon in the United States.
