Neue Grafik / New Graphic Design / Graphisme actuel — Issue No. 16, 1963

Neue Grafik / New Graphic Design / Graphisme actuel: International Review of graphic design and related subjects edited by LMNV: Richard P. Lohse, Josef Müller–Brockmann, Hans Neuburg and Carlo L. Vivarelli, July 1963. Walter–Verlag AG, Olten, Switzerland. 9.75 x 11, pp. 64 plus covers with German, English and French text.

Published quarterly from 1958-1965 (17 issues, 18 numbers; issue 17/18 was a double issue), Neue Grafik was the most important journal responsible for disseminating contemporary and historical Swiss functional design ideas and philosophies. The journal’s sparse cover, rigorous structure and four-column grid (which extends to the interior pages) is designed entirely of text; meant to inform rather than illustrate the issues content.

Heavily illustrated with noteworthy content: Swiss Posters of the Past Five Years by Hans Neuburg, A Sign System for Electromedical Instruments by Tomas Maldonado and Gui Bonsiepe, Progressive Election Notices (Jost Hochuli) by Peter Mächler, Publicity for a London Firm of Furniture (Design Associates by Robin Praed) by Richard P. Lohse, Pure Photo-Graphic Design by Georg Radanowicz, Exhibition of Asbestos Cement Tubes by Margit Staber, SWB Design Forum 1962 by Peter Lehner, Permanent Braun Pavilion by LMNV, Book Jackets of the Thirties by Richard P. Lohse, and A Painter Who Is His Own Graphic Designer (Almir Mavignier) by Margit Staber. Full-page advertising by Gerstner + Kutter, Swissair and others.

A near fine, original periodical with a hint of wear along the margins and spine. Single issues available, please reach out if you are in search of a specific issue.
